Before 1992, the USA had competed with amateur player rosters in the Olympics, coming up short against other countries' professionals. After only receiving a bronze medal in the Seoul 1988 Games, it was decided that it was time for the NBA and USA to assert their dominance. Forming one of the greatest rosters of all time, the "Dream Team" was led by Magic Johnson, Larry Bird, and Michael Jordan. The iconic team dominated every match-up by a margin of over 40 points per game, and went on to win gold with an 8-0 record, putting the USA on top once again and elevating the NBA to a global phenomenon.
